Doctors, human rights activists, various social organizations and people belonging to political parties staged a protest at the clock tower in Birgunj on October 7, demanding the life protection of Dr. Govinda KC, who is on his 19th hunger strike. Participants in the demonstration carried placards with slogans such as "Fulfill Dr. KC's demands", "Dr. KC's hunger strike, mafia in Tension, stop looting".
Protestors complained that it is very unfortunate that Dr. Kc had to go through the hunger strike for the 19th time. He has been on the strike and risking his health not for personal interest but to ensure that the children of the common poor become doctors and that government medical colleges be opened outside the Valley for easy access to health care.
They warned government that all these demands are legitimate and it’s the responsibility of the state to fulfill them .But as the government and concerned people are not giving enough attention to this issue, they believe that this protest would alert and pressurize them.
