Adolescents and young girls of Birendranagar spontaneously staged a rally to put pressure on the government demanding action against the rapist on Thursday, October 15, as the number of rape cases is increasing recently and no action has been taken against the culprits. They accused the government for not building a safe society for girls and women.
The participants started the campaign wearing black masks and black t-shirts and with the slogans such as “write the strict law, our constitution” and “our campaign against rape”. They stressed that strict laws should be enacted to take stern action against the perpetrators of such heinous crimes and the government should be pressurized so that such events won’t repeat in the future. They have united to speak against rape to make government listen to the issue.
Through poetry one participant expressed the emotions felt by a raped girl and how it destroys their life. She recited the poem, "My first struggle is my birth, and this is my good deed that I didn’t have to die in my mother’s womb. I used to cry over small wound, now turned speechless even in your violence, I cried and took my voice back, and couldn’t even stand for myself”.
They also raised questions that, "When will it be possible for women to come out safely in the evening?"
