The Muslim community is outraged alleging that the ward chairman obstructed the reconstruction of the Musafir Madini Mosque in Sundhara by vandalizing it with a dozer on last Saturday, October 24. Chairman of the Muslim Commission Samim Mian Ansari also reached the site after a team including the ward chairman obstructed the reconstruction site.
Chairman Ansari accused the local representatives of working for the land mafia instead of working for the people. He said that there was an attempt to disrupt social harmony by obstructing the reconstruction work on the fifth day. A local accused that the ward chairman threatened to demolish the building if the reconstruction work does not stop.
Located just behind the Dharaha tower under construction, the mosque is owned by the Government of Nepal and is being used by the mosque management. This mosque was damaged when the tower collapsed in the earthquake of 2015 and since then being used by the Muslim community as a temporary structure. One hundred years ago, when Muslims used to come to Kathmandu, the mosque was established as a place of prayer.
