Gita Aryal (Bhattarai) of Devdaha Municipality-7 in Rupandehi has been subjected to physical abuse by her family members for since the past 13 years. Gita was married to Bhuvan Bhattarai in 2007 and the Bhattarai family has been beating her continuously since the wedding on the pretext of dowry. Gita registered the issue of sharecropping and polygamy two years ago after her husband got remarried without her consent. The property of the Bhattarai family has been frozen after Geeta filed a case in the court due to which she got abused again. They locked her in a room and beaten her repeatedly. The case of foreclosure is under consideration in the court.
Gita's husband died in January 2019, he was hit by a tipper in Gaidakot. Family members blamed her for his death and abused her. The last time Gita was beaten was on October 24, 2020, where even her two sisters-in-law also participated in the beating. There are also bruises on different parts of the body. Gita is living apart since last June due to extreme violence even though her family members used to come and beat her. she said that even a neighbour who came to help her was also beaten. The family did not even allow her 11-year-old daughter to stay with her to make her look bad.
