Woman assaulted in Dhanusha in witchcraft allegation

A 40-year-old woman, Jivachi Devi Yadav was allegedly beaten up by the villagers accusing her of involvement in witchcraft. A complaint has been lodged against 33-year-old Ramnath Yadav, 35-year-old Jit Narayan Yadav, 31-year-old Sujit Yadav, 29-year-old Mithilesh Yadav and 36-year-old Bimaladevi Yadav of Aurahi rural municipality-1, Jhitkahiya at the District Police Office, Dhanusha on October 29. 

She was accused to be involved in the witchcraft for allegedly throwing rice and flowers in front of her house door at around 10:30 pm while she was returning home after watching the worship of Goddess Durga Bhagwati at the house of her neighbour on October 25. The victim alleged that the people grabbed her hair from inside the house, forcibly brought her out of the house, beat her, shaved her hair, forcibly tried to make her eat excrement as well as also beat up her 12-year-old daughter Puja Kumari Yadav while trying to save her.

The victim was injured in the beating and was treated at Dhanusha Hospital, Janakpur and was admitted to the Provincial Hospital, Janakpur for further treatment. Police said that search for the accused was underway.
