In a rare example of cruelty, a man in Siraha district of southeastern Nepal has allegedly killed his own mother charging her of witchcraft.
Ram Awatar Sah has already confessed to killing 90-year-old Sudama Devi, claims the District Police Office.
A few days ago, Ram Awatar’s daughter-in-law Manisha in Karjanha municipality-3 of the district had had a wound in her leg. After the wound did not heal for a long time, he accused the nonagenarian mother of casting an evil spell on Manisha using her witchcraft.
“They not only beat her up black and blue but also forced her to eat faeces,” District Police Office Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma says, “Our team had saved her from eating faeces.”
After the Wednesday incident last week, the old lady was injured and taken to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham for further treatment. Doctors detected a tilt in a bone around her neck, to conclude its treatment was not possible at that age. They sent her back home.
However, her health deteriorated on Saturday and some locals took her to the District Hospital. However, Sudama Devi died on the way.
Ram Awatar was arrested on Friday, he has already confessed to the crime, according to police.
