The Newaz Club and locals of Sunakothi jointly agitated and blocked the road by playing musical instruments in protest on November 1, saying that no effort was been made to build the road even after one year of the agreement. They had staged protests in June with the same demand. After they blocked the road, as the effect of their pressure, the contractor poured water on the road and a gravel truck was also brought. They announced to continue the agitation until the construction work is complete.
The Sunakothi, Thecho and Chapagaun road sections were demolished to widen the road. But after the contractor left the road unattended for years, locals resorted to protests. Although an agreement was reached to open the road later, the road has not been constructed yet.
The contract was signed to build an 11 meter wide road from Satdobato to Chapagaun in 2014 but the road construction could not be completed due to compensation dispute. The locals now took the matter to the streets regarding health issues from the pollution of the road.
The contract was awarded to Sharada Adhikari's Shailung Construction. Adhikari is the renter of NCP’s Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda house.
