Family members of Kalpa Patel who died on on November 11 has accused her husband 28-year-old Rakesh Singh Kurmi of Phatuwavijaypur -2, Rautahat and his family members of murdering her over dowry. The in-laws demanded Rs 500,000 in cash and a motorcycle as dowry two days before the wedding even though they agreed to bear their own expenses without taking a single rupee for the dowry. They gave 1,40,000 rupees in cash to the boy's side and he got married after agreeing to give him a motorcycle after lockdown.
The victim's father filed an FIR against four members of his daughter's family including her father-in-law Ram Ekwal Singh, husband Rakesh Singh, brother-in-law Suresh Singh and brother-in-law Yuvraj Singh. He accused them of disguising the murder of his daughter as suicide. According to him, Kalpa was mentally tortured by the in-laws for a motorcycle less than a month after the marriage.
He also mentioned that before killing his daughter Kalpa Patel, Rakesh also killed his eldest daughter after marrying her. Police are not able to arrest the accused even after four days of filing the complaint even though they are hiding in their relatives’ house in Nepal.
