BHAKTAPUR, Nov 20: Police on Thursday arrested three people on the charge of harassing transgender Nikisha Shrestha.
The three were apprehended on the charge of harassing Shrestha on a road at Bhaktapur-1 by using abusive language and uploading the video of the same incident on social media.
Following the information of the incident on different online media and social networks, a team of police led by Police Inspector Sudan KC arrested them for further investigation. According to the Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur, Safil Khatri, 19 of Bhaktapur-1, and two other boys aged 16 and 17 from Bhaktapur-5, Taumadhi, have been arrested. Of them, Khatri was riding a scooter, a 16-year-old boy took the video and another 17-year-old accused uploaded the video on social media, according to the preliminary investigation by the police.
The police shared that they are investigating the case in coordination with the victim.
The video went viral after it was uploaded on social media platforms on Tuesday.
Born as a boy and named Nikesh, she later changed her name to Nikisha and started identifying herself as a girl.
