Province 1, Udayapur, Triyuga

Trade union cadres affiliated to the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) held a silent protest against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's contentious move of House dissolution, in Udayapur, on Saturday.

On December 20, Prime Minister Oli dismantled the House of Representatives (HoR) and announced mid-term elections in April-May 2021. The decision which has been labelled 'undemocratic' by political parties was swiftly approved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, drawing her much flak nationwide. The decision, which is currently being probed in the Supreme Court, has led to political instability and much chaos in the country as the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) split into two factions, one splinter group among which is led by dissenting former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal.
