Traders in the southern part of Kanchanpur have been agitated demanding to control smuggling from the border side. They also symbolically closed the IBRD market on Monday.
The market was closed under the leadership of the Punarbas Branch of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Chairman of the Kanchanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Punarbas Branch Krishna Bahadur Tamang said that the market has been closed demanding to control an increase in the smuggling of illegal goods and the import of counterfeit goods from the Indian border.
Recently, illegal goods have been being imported through various border checkpoints in Kanchanpur and Belauri areas. According to the Kanchanpur Police, drugs are also being smuggled.
