22-year-old Suresh Kathariya (Tharu), police personnel posted in Nawalparasi, was arrested on the charge of attempted murder after raping a 19-year-old girl on March 20. He was arrested from Mangalapur in Rupandehi on March 21 after the complaint of the victim and her family. 

According to police, Tharu had raped the girl and tried to strangle her to death with the fear of the incident being public and threw her into a nearby pit thinking that she was dead.
