Province 4, Gorkha, Gorkha
Farmers of Benikhola and Chhevetar obstructed the excavation of riverine material in the Daraundi River concerning the increased risk of soil erosion. The excavation process is carried out with the contract given by the Gorkha Municipality, however, the farmers say that the river is getting deeper and the problem has started to appear when the river overflows.
Farmers said that excavation will be stopped until the canal is arranged. Gyanendra Kumal, a local and a member of the Constituent Assembly, said that action should be taken for preparing a report that riverine materials can be excavated in a way that erodes traditional streams. Landowners of Suntale Bohorabesi demanded an alternative arrangement for irrigation in the fields.
