The people who are affected by the National Transmission Line under construction in Marsyangdi Corridor of Lamjung, have burnt their property papers "lalpurja" to protest against the recently issued compensation notice without resolving the previous disputes.
Affected people of Rainas, Dordi, Besishahar and Marsyangdi villages gathered in the district headquarters Besishahar under the Marsyangdi Corridor and staged the protest against the government. Locals complained that they have been forced to become squatter by not being able to use their own lands.
Earlier, the District Administration Office, Lamjung, had prohibited the landowners to take compensation and build houses and plant trees within "the right of way" under the transmission line. However, the affected people have protested saying that they have taken away the rights of the people without addressing the problems of the past four years.
