The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection has taken action against "All final surgical suppliers" in Tripureshwar for selling masks at exorbitant prices. During the market monitoring, the suppliers were fined Rs. 200,000 for selling the mask at double the purchase price. The masks bought by the suppliers at Rs 4.46 per unit were sold at Rs 8.38 per unit.
The suppliers have been fined under Section 39 (1) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2018 after committing improper business activities as per Section 38 (1). Recently, the department has intensified the market in three districts of Kathmandu Valley during the prohibitory order.
