Locals assaulted and hurled stones at Hari Nepali's family in Jugal Rural Municipality's Dhyadum. They had been pressuring the Nepali family, who had lived in Dhyadum for about 20 years, to leave the place because they were Dalits. Dhyadum is a Newar settlement and the Nepali family is the only Dalit family.
According to the victim Nepali, their neighbors Govinda Shrestha and his wife Lalita Shrestha had beaten him on the same pretext on June 2. The victim further said that his family in the middle of the settlement and they are repeatedly threatened to relocate.
They had been suffering for a long time for being a Dalit and had not filed a police report due to threats after being beaten. Local Sushil Nepali, on the other hand, stated that he only filed a complaint with the police on June 6 with the assistance of local youth.
