PM and Deputy PM's effigies burnt in Sindhuli

2021-06-07

Bagmati, Sindhuli, Sunkoshi

The Nepali Congress burned effigies of Prime Minister Oli and Deputy Prime Minister Rajendra Mahaoto in Jhangajholi Ratmata in Sunkoshi rural municipality, to protest inflation during the pandemic and demanding Mahato retract his statement that a liberation movement should be formed to create a multi-national and multi-state.

Congress further opposed the government's plan to permit stone, ballast, and sand mining by excavating chure, as well as Mahato's assertion that he would build a multi-national and multi-state as soon as he became a minister.

Police had intervened after protestors blocked the road after burning down the effigies. Though there were clashes between the protesters and the police for some time, no untoward incident took place, said Congress leader Bodh Bikram Thapa. According to the police, the BP highway traffic is running smoothly.
