Husband and in-laws beat a newlywed bride in Mahottari for not providing a gas stove and cylinder in the dowry. The victim was married to Jognarayan Sah of Sarlahi Haripurwa Municipality on April 26 and after few days after the marriage, her husband and other family members started assaulting her for dowry.
According to the relatives of the victim, her health condition is now normal after treatment at the district hospital in Sarlahi. The relatives have lodged a complaint at the Peace Service Center and District Police Office in Sarlahi demanding action against the accused. According to District Police Office, Sarlahi, Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh Rathore, the father-in-law has been arrested and they are searching for the other members as they had fled.
At her wedding, she was given a dowry worth more than Rs 12 lakhs including Rs 375,000 in cash, two tolas of gold, 12 tolas of silver, furniture, and clothes. However, the victim said that the family members used to beat her saying that it was not enough.
