Dalit rights activists, civil society activists, journalists, and fraternal politicians staged a joint demonstration and signature collection program against the state-protected discrimination at Maitighar Mandala on June 24. Saraswati Pradhan, a landlord of Kathmandu who discriminated against Rupa Sunar, was released and taken home in the ministry's vehicle.
They demanded the resignation of Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha, accusing him of expressing support for an individual accused of caste-based discrimination. Bishwas Khadkathoki, general secretary of the Dalit Journalists Association, said that more than 300 signatures were collected. He said that he would submit the signature to the Prime Minister.
During the demonstration, poet Balram Timalsina recited the translated poem "Then what do you do?" By Om Prakash Balmiki, a famous Indian aesthetic writer of Dalit aesthetics.
