Students at Tribhuvan University (TU)  gathered in front of the TU premises and stage a protest under the banner of the TU Student Struggle Committee against the high tuition fees charged by the university for non-technical subjects like humanities and education for MPhil and Ph.D. levels. The students carried placards with slogans like 'MPhil, Ph.D. for free', 'Secure higher education with state investment' and 'Stop trade in education on TU'.

The agitation was started last year under the leadership of Sangharsh Dahal, Ramesh Bista, Manisha Karki, Sameer Gautam, and other student activists with the demand that MPhil Ph.D. should be free.
