Samyukta Dalit Sangharsh Samiti Rupandehi protested against caste discrimination by burning the effigy of the Education Minister, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, at Butwal's Traffic Chowk on June 28. The effigy was burnt demanding the resignation of Minister Shrestha.
There has been widespread criticism and Dalit community agitation after Minister Shrestha took the accused Saraswati Pradhan, who was arrested on the charge of not renting a room due to caste, in his own car. Dalit activists allege that the government has protected caste-based discrimination.
