Maya, a 15-year-old girl with intellectual disabilities was raped in Sudurpaschim at her own house by a relative. Maya's sister-in-law witnessed the incident and informed Maya's mother. Maya's mother was hesitant to talk openly about the incident.
This was not the first incident in Maya's life. Three years ago, Maya was not at home when her mother returned home in the evening after work on the farm. She was searched at a neighbour's house but was not found. News of her disappearance spread on social media including Facebook with photos. Two days later, news came to Maya was found unconscious near a nearby hospital. The girl she found unconscious was Maya. The body was not fully clothed. There was bleeding from the genitals. Maya was taken to the hospital. A check-up confirmed that she had been raped. But the family did not file a complaint with the police to find the culprit. After Maya's normal treatment, she was brought home. That crime against Maya was suppressed.
