Doctors of Mechi Hospital in Bhadrapur, Jhapa stage a strike against the assault on fellow doctor Kebal Kapuri demanding action and protection. Doctors and health workers stopped the OPD service of the hospital on July 19 in protest of the beating of a colleague. The health service of the institute has been affected after 350 doctors quit their jobs at the same time. They said that they will not return to work until the police arrest the person involved in the beating and take action.
40-year-old Pushparaj Niraula of Haldibari is accused of beating Dr Kebal Kapuri of Mechi Hospital, Bhadrapur on July 18 night. Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Tanka Prasad Baharkoti, said that Niraula, whose wife was admitted to the emergency room of the hospital for treatment had assaulted Dr Kapuri over general disputes. It is alleged that Niraula attacked doctor Kapuri saying that he delayed seeing the patient in the emergency room.
