The victim's side lodged a complaint against the 32-year-old man at the District Police Office on July 27 on the charge of selling his 22-year-old wife in India. The victim was rescued on July 25 at the initiative of the District Police Office, Rupendehi and the "Afanata Nepal" organization. Police started the investigation after the complaint was lodged against the accused alleging that he had physically and mentally abused the victim.
According to the complaint, the victim was taken to India through Krishnanagar on June 14. After arriving in India, the accused was forced to have intercourse with strangers and when the victim refused, she was electrocuted and beaten. After informing the Indian police, the accused was arrested and a bail of Rs 7 lakh was demanded.
