Khadga Bahadur Tamang, a 32-year-old resident of Ghumthang in Barhabise Municipality-7, who was in the custody of the Area Police Office, Barhabise died at Dhulikhel Hospital on August 6 while undergoing treatment. Police had arrested Tamang on August 2 on the charge of theft. The victim's family alleges that Tamang died as a result of torture in police custody. According to Inspector Devendra Bahadur Shah of the Area Police Office, he fell ill as he was a heavy drinker before being arrested by the police.
Health personnel Anupama Thapa at Primary Health Center in Baahrabise, where Tamang was first taken for medical examination stated that she found blue injury marks on the deceased's hand. She further stated that Tamang was referred to Dhulikhel hospital as his condition was serious
