Students of 10 private engineering colleges in the Kathmandu Valley affiliated with Tribhuvan University stage a protest under the leadership of the students' organization saying that they have been heftily charged for their classes even while the classes are being conducted online. Three student organizations, Nepal Students Union, ANNFSU (Revolutionary) and ANNFSU-affiliated students are protesting against the fee.

Among them, students of Himalaya College of Engineering in Lalitpur are on a relay strike for seven days. While the strike was going on, the college tried to suppress the peaceful agitation by mobilizing the police on August 7, said BiBek Gyawali, vice-president of the Nepali Union. He further said that the college administration has not even picked up the phones of students and parents since then.

The parents of the students have been demanding at least a 30 to 35 per cent fee waiver as their income has been weakened due to Covid-19 and the classes are also being conducted virtually. The Institute of Engineering Studies has extended the schedule of examination forms till mid-August.  Colleges, on the other hand, have been saying that they can give only 5 to 10 per cent discount and are not accepting the examination forms of the students without the payment.
