Police arrested one of the teachers from the duo accused of raping their 14-year-old female student from Bhairav Mavi in Rainas municipality-9, Mohoriya in Lamjung. One of the accused, Mr Prakash Thapa, was arrested, but the other accused, Arjun Bikram Thapa, is still absconding.
The incident happened last year during the month of January-February which only came to the surface in April after the victim shared it with her friends. After which police arrested Thapa on the basis of the complaint from the victim's family. However, he was released by police in few hours without any conditions and investigation on the pretext that the girl gave a statement that mentioned she was joking with her friends. The parents and locals had also protested then raising questions on not handling this issue with seriousness. They even staged a sit-in protest in the school compound on June 3 demanding fair investigation and punishment to culprits.
The victim girl herself filed the complaint again on August 27 accusing that teachers abused her showing hope that they would help her to go and study in Kathmandu. One of the family members mentioned that culprits are trying to lure as well as threaten the victim to withdraw the statement.
