Province 1, Khotang, Halesi Tuwachung, Ward 9
Concerns were raised after police refused to lodge a complaint on the death case of a 21-year-old Shiksha Rai. Rai was found dead on August 23 in her own residence at Khotang Haleshi Tuwachung Municipality-9, Salle. According to the victim's side, the case seems suspicious as they were first informed that the victim committed suicide by hanging herself in the jackfruit's tree but when they reached her house, they came to know that the victim was found hanging in the 7 feet tall veranda, not in the tree. The victim's family claimed that the victim couldn't reach that high herself, there were several bruises and marks on her body, her nose and mouth was bleeding and the body was taken down before the police verified, which were suspicious. The victim's relatives allege that the perpetrator tried to settle the incident of death showing financial temptation to police. They further alleged the deceased's husband Mankumae of assaulting her under the influence of alcohol.
After the autopsy at the district hospital, Gyan Bahadur Rai, the uncle of the deceased stated that the police had twice refused to file a complaint against his Mankumar. They were forced to lodge a complaint of incitement to suicide against Mankumar after the police refused to lodge the complaint of murder for the third time. Police then arrested the accused on August 25.
