The health workers and other employees of Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa started a hunger strike on September 1 demanding righteous and respectful treatment towards them by the hospital administration. The health workers were agitated after the hospital administration demanded justification from the employees who took to social media about the respectful treatment of health workers. They had shown their dissatisfaction in the Viber group after the hospital felicitated people who helped manage oxygen cylinders during the COVID crisis in a formal program excluding health workers.
They condemned Medical Superintendent Shakuntala Gupta for asking justification with the employees and blamed her for threatening them to rusticate from their job. The demands include providing equal facilities to health workers and employees appointed by the hospital management committee, as permanent employees, quick remuneration of COVID risk allowance and transfer of medical superintendent.
