37-year-old Bhim Kamat of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-11, who was arrested with cannabis on September 3, died in custody. The deceased has injuries on both legs. Relatives and locals protested by burning tires, saying they had died as a result of police torture. They demanded an investigation into the incident.
Police had arrested Kamat with three kilograms and four hundred and eighty grams of marijuana. They were preparing to extend the investigation on September 5. However, DSP Deepak Shrestha of the District Police Office Morang said that Kamat was rushed to Koshi Hospital for treatment after he fainted. He died at the hospital around 1.30 pm on September 5.
