With a shortage of fertilizers in the market, the dealers in Dhanusa and Mahottari are found to be selling the fertilizers in three times the price than allocated by the Nepal Government. Government has been selling fertilizers through cooperatives in subsidized price. However the farmers complained that the operators of cooperatives are selling the fertilizer at higher price.
Farmers are worried not only due to shortage of fertilizers but also due to black marketing by the cooperatives. Previously farmers were dependent on Indian market and almost 50% of the fertilizer demand for this bordering region used to be smuggled by the farmers themselves. But there is strict monitoring since last 2 years due to COVID which has marred exporting fertilizers from India.
