Sita Patel accused her husband and father-in-law of physically assaulting her for failing to bring dowry. Patel did an inter-caste marriage two months ago. Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on September 15, Patel said that her husband Umesh Sah Godh and father-in-law Jawahir Sah Godh had beaten her and threatened to kill her.
She also said that she was arrested on the charge of false allegations that she had obtained fake Nepali citizenship and was assaulted in the police station. She accused the police of giving her death threats and beating her. She stated that Parsa Dilip Pradhan, the secretary of Community Police, grabbed her hair and hit her on the head. She said that her father-in-law, who had come with Pradhan, stabbed her in the back four or five times with the intention of killing her. She said, "SP Bel Bahadur Pandey of Parsa refused to take the complaint and tore the original copy and threatened to flee Nepal if she wanted to save her life."
She stated that she was released from jail on September 7 after submitting the court-ordered bail. She claimed that her in-laws took control of her room on the same day, with the help of the police, and took a 32-inch LCD TV, a cooler, a drawer, one lakh rupees in cash, and one piece of jewellery. She demanded that the items taken from the room be returned immediately. Patel demands that she be allowed to live with her husband in a peaceful and secure family environment.
