Police arrested two citizens Sanjit Pathak and Subas Jhawho on September 19. They were protesting along with the farmers and landowners of Bajrahi- 8 against a ditch dug on orders of Mahottari CDO. According to the locals, the CDO of Mahottari, Tirtharaj Bhattarai showed dictatorial tendencies by arresting the peaceful protestors. About 30 years ago, the farmers of Bajrahi, Ratwara, Bakhari and other villages in Jaleshwor sold around 36 Bighas of the land worth of crores of rupees to Manipal for the construction of an engineering college on just Rs. 10,000 because they promised the farmers that one from each family would get the full scholarship to study engineering in the same college. Locals complained that the college was not built for these many years, and the CDO Bhattarai dug a big ditch without any inquiry or coordination with the landlord, farmer, mayor or anyone else. The locals also showed concerns and dangers the children and elderly will face while going near the ditch.
