Relatives of the inmates of Morang jail agitated over the transfer of gangster Abhisek Giri from Kathmandu, Dillibazar Jail to Morang Jail. The relatives of inmates of Morang jail staged demonstration on October 5, stating that the transfer of Giri to the Morang jail would create unsafe environment to the other inmates in Morang Jail. Navin Rai, a watchman of Morang Prison, after refusing to go to Jhumka Prison on Monday, the prison administration forcibly skirted him and took him to Jhumka Prison in Sunsari on October 4, the inmates inside the prison have become scared saying that they are sure to bring Giri.
Giri, who was arrested from Baneshwor in Kathmandu on charges of kidnapping and extortion, was sentenced by a Kathmandu court to eight years in prison.Giri, who was kept in Delhi Bazaar Jail after the court's verdict, used the access as soon as the Congress-led government came to power. Giri, who is considered a Nepali Congress supporter, was known for his hooliganism in Biratnagar.
Giri had gone to jail on August 1, 2008 on the charge of murdering Karan Yadav, a youth of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-12, Jatuwa, in the tender scandal of the then District Development Committee, Morang. Giri was brutally injured during the group attack on him on June 1, 2011, when Giri was brought to the Morang District Court for trial from Jhumka of Sunsari Regional Jail. After the attack, Giri was transferred to Morang Prison for security reasons. While in jail, Giri was accused of extorting ransom from inside the jail.
