Four* persons died when over 10 sustained injuries in a violent clash between police and local squatters at the proposed Motipur industrial estate in Butwal, on Sunday. The four who belonged to the landless squatter group died after receiving bullets from law enforcers.
The federal government’s Home Ministry spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokharel says 14 people were injured in the clash, of which three died while being rushed to treatment and one while undergoing treatment at the Universal Medical College in Bhairahawa. Earlier, the police had launched their efforts to remove the squatters from the land belonging to the industrial estate project. But, the squatters resorted to a protest, resulting in the clash.
Rupandehi Chief District Officer Rishi Ram Tiwari says a curfew order has been imposed in the neighbourhood from 4 pm today to prevent the violence and tension from getting worse.

Among the dead were two 40-year-old men and a 20-year-old man. Ramesh Pariyar, 48, of Banganga Municipality-10 of Kapilvastu died while undergoing treatment at Universal Medical College, Bhairahawa.
