Locals, including Dalit rights activist Saru Sunar, who had come to Kalikot for on-the-ground monitoring, staged a protest at Manama Bazaar, demanding that the killer of 16-year-old Niru Bishwakarma of Khadachakra-6 Daha Goralwada, who was murdered two months ago after being raped, be made public. Human rights activist Kali Bahadur Malla claims that the police investigation process is flawed because the perpetrator has yet to be identified two months after the body was discovered in a maize field. Sunar, who had returned to Daha, claimed that she had been threatened by members of the "upper caste." She claimed that a man named Thakuri threatened her during the interrogation in the village.
On August 20, the girl's body was discovered in a maize field about 300 meters below the house. Basanta Bishwakarma, a local, claims she was gang-raped and murdered. The body was discovered on the ground.
