A woman and his brother-in-law were assaulted in Mahottari over witchcraft allegations. 50-year-old Jhapsi Thakur and his 55-year-old sister-in-law Sunaina Devi, both of Awaleshara in Mahottari's Aurahi Municipality-9, were allegedly beaten and fed excrement on October 28. According to the locals, 40-year-old Sheela Devi Mandal, her 16-year-old son Ram Udesh Mandal, 35-year-old Dukhiya Devi, and her 15-year-old son Krishna Mandal assaulted the victims.
After the incident, a police team deployed from the Area Police Office, Ramgopalpur rescued the two and admitted them for treatment at the local level. Sheeladevi's husband and Rupati had been drinking together and Sheeladevi's husband had died that night during the Dashain festival. Meanwhile, on October 28 Sheela Devi's son Ram Udesh died in a motorcycle accident. Police stated that Jhapsi and Sunaina were beaten and fed excrement by the locals, who claimed they died as a result of spells cast on them. The victim has sustained injuries in his left eye and leg. Police have arrested Sheela Devi on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victimand further investigation is underway,
