A 25-year-old woman of Beni-5 alleged that she was gang-raped by three locals while she was sleeping at home with her children. The woman said that the three youths broke through the window of her house at around 12 am on October 19. All the three accused are absconding. According to the victim, the drunk locals 24-year-old Hithman Baniya, 18-year-old Pravesh Ramdam and 22-year-old Prakash Ramdam knocked on her door that night. And, when she did not open the door, they broke the window. She further accuses them of beating her children.
The victim's husband is abroad. According to the victim, after the incident became public, the accused Baniya's father and others offer her to pay Rs. 100,000 to keep the incident secret. Despite various temptations, fears, intimidation and threats, the woman reached the District Police Office on October 21 and lodged an FIR against the three. Only then did the police arrive at the scene. By then, all the three involved in the incident had turned off their mobile phones and fled.
