Depositors of Postal Savings Ban staged a sit-in protest at the District Postal Savings Bank demanding a withdrawl of the amount saved in the Postal Savings Bank. The depositor had handed over a memorandum to the Government of Nepal through Chief District Officer Mohan Adhikari on October 29 saying that they had not received the amount they had saved in the Postal Savings Bank for two years.
It has been revealed that the then office chief Ran Bahadur Kadayat and the buyer Shivaraj Upadhyaya used to show that the savers had deposited in the savings book of the office but used the money themselves.
One thousand seven hundred and one savers have lost Rs 578.64 million. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority was accused after the money was embezzled. The authorities had registered a case against Kathayat and Upadhyaya in a special court with the conclusion that they had committed Rs 49.5 million in irregularities.
