Bharatpur locals padlocked ward chairman's office over financial irregularities

2021-11-12

Bagmati, Chitawan, Bharatpur, Ward 13

Locals in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-13 padlocked the ward chairman's office, claiming money mismanagement. Locals accused the government of failing to disclose the income and expenses of the Rhino Kunj Tourism Fair, which took place in Chaitra in 2075 BS. Prakash Dawadi, Ward Chairman, was chosen from the Maoist centre. On October 11, some residents demanded four points in a memorandum. The protest program was called off after the ward chairman pledged to make the fair's budget data public by October 27.

However, residents are upset since no audit was conducted after the report that Rs. 1.6 million was spent on the fair was made public. The ward said that 82 tripper gravel were used to build the Rhino Kunj playground in the Ghol area. Locals, though, have accused him of selling stones elsewhere. Locals argue that there has been no financial transparency in the trust's building in Rapravi Brahmapuri. They thought that they had violated the Public Procurement Regulations by preventing the construction of the Rs 3.2 million budget.
