Chand led CPN and Maoist Labourer's (Majdoor) Party jointly staged a torch rally from the Riyadh petrol pump premises in Udayapur on November 12 to protest against the increase in the price of petroleum products. Stating that the government has abruptly increased the price of petroleum products, they have staged the protest demanding the return of the price hike.
According to Laxman Poudel, Udayapur secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Biplav), torch rallies were staged in Katari, Nepaltar, Gaighat and Beltar against the price hike. The government has increased petrol, diesel and kerosene by Rs 3 per litre. The price of cooking gas has also gone up by 75 rupees per cylinder. With the price hike, petrol has gone up to Rs 136 per litre and diesel to Rs 119 per litre.
