Activists staged sit-in demanding implementation of the report of the investigation committee on the case of Nirmala Kurmi disappearance in Nepalgunj

Rights activists staged a sit-in in front of the District Administration Office on November 13, demanding implementation of the report of the government formation committee to investigate the disappearance of Nirmala Kurmi of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis-17.  Right activists resumed their sit-in along with placards and pens in their hands stating that the Banke police was reluctant to investigate the incident. An investigation committee set up by the government to probe into the abduction and hostage-taking incident had concluded that the accused should immediately be arrested and investigated. However, police have not arrested Badshah Kurmi the main accused Congress leader and former. The complaint was lodged against eight persons at the District Police Office, Banke on September 5, 2020, alleging Kurmi's disappearance. The report has suggested the government arrest the culprit and investigate after finding out the fact that 4 and a half bighas of land and land of Nirmala, who went missing in Nepalgunj-17, was transferred by the land mafia. 

A committee led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Hiralal Regmi has submitted a report to Home Minister Bal Krishna Khan. The report states that Nirmala's land was taken by the land mafia. Police have arrested six persons including Ramesh Thapa, Parvati Bista, Krishna Murari Singh, Urmila Kanojia, Amar Lal Kurmi and Dhirendra Singh on Monday on the charge of taking over the land worth crores of rupees. The court has released 80-year-old accused Kubar Babban Singh on a common date due to the age limit. Banke Police Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhusudhan Neupane said that the second marriage took place in India, a photo of her death was received there and the death was registered online.
