United Students Association staged demonstration in Kathmandu; 8 arrested

United Students Association/Students of Tribhuvan University staged demonstration in front of the office of Dharma Kanta Baskota vice-chancellor on December 8, against the decision to make the contract associate professor permanent through internal competition. The demonstrators tried to picket the office of the vice-chancellor during the demonstration when eight of the students were arrested. Manisha Karki, Samir Gautam, Shoma Bam, Anik KC, Bipin BK, Ram Naresh Yadav, Prabin Dahal, Tej Prasad Pokahrel are amongst the arrested student leaders. 
Former Vice-Chancellors of Tribhuvan University, Kedar Bhakta Mathema, Kamal Krishna Joshi, Mahesh Kumar Upadhyay, Hira Bahadur Maharjan and Navin Prakash Jung Shah in a statement issued on Thursday, demanded that the decision be reversed.
