Human Rights and Peace Society staged a demonstration in different districts demanding the resignation of Cholendra Shamsher Jabara, Chief Justice on the occasion of 73rd International Human Rights Day. As an independent, impartial and competent court is essential for the protection of human rights, the society has urged chief justice to resign immediately or face impeachment.
Addressing the sit-in, Govinda Khanal, Central President of the Peace Society, said that the actions of the Chief Justice were a mockery of democracy and the weakness of the parties to remain silent on such a sensitive issue. Former presidents of the society Advocate Homkant Chaulagai and Uttam Pudasaini said that the judiciary was polluted due to political appointments and judicial deviations. He said that the removal of Chief Justice Jabbar was necessary for the cleansing of the judiciary.
Similarly, on December 10, the same day as the Human Rights Day, the branches of the Peace Society including Chitwan, Dang, Sankhuwasabha, Mahottari, Rupandehi, Nawalpur and Tehrathum staged a demonstration demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Justice Jabra.
