Police in Kathmandu have arrested eight persons on the charge of gang rape, in Naya Buspark of the capital. The suspects have been identified as Yuba Raj Baduwal, Hikmat Nepali, Ratan Nepali, Suresh Sejuwal, Deepak Nepali, Shiva Hari Budha, and Gopal Kumar Shreesh. Police have not revealed the name of the eighth suspect.
Seven persons were arrested on Tuesday evening whereas the eighth suspect was held on Wednesday morning, informs SP Dinesh Raj Mainali of the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu. One more suspect is on the run, and police have launched a manhunt.
Of the arrestees, Yuba Raj Baduwal has been identified as the mastermind as he enticed the survivor into going to a guest house.
Preliminary investigations revealed the survivor is a woman from the Surkhet district of Karnali in search of work recently. Her husband is missing for the past several years.
Police had launched an investigation after they received a gang rape complaint against the suspects.
Further investigation is underway.
