Kailali's businessman's and industrialists have been protesting in Dhangadhi of Kailali since the past five days demanding to operate the Geta Medical College from this year. The demonstrators demanded that the bill should be passed to clarify the legal status of the medical college, ensure the right of the people of the far west to get specialist health and guarantee the right to study medicine easily and simply. Industrialists, businessmen, representatives of various political parties, teachers, professors, intellectuals, students, legal practitioners, human rights activists, and media persons also participated in the demonstration.
During the demonstration in Park Chowk in Dhangadhi, Congress leader Govinda Raj Joshi, CPN-UML leader Ran Bahadur Chand, Maoist center peace officer, leader Bimal Dhami, civic leader Rabin Kant Pant, general secretary of Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry Om Bisht, Padam Shah and others demanded to run Geta Medical College. He demanded to allocate the necessary amount in the budget of the year and pass the necessary bill from the current session of the parliament.
Debate started to establish Geta Medical College as a health science academy in 2068 BS. The proposed Geta Medical College Physical Infrastructure Development Committee was formed from the Fiscal Year 2073/74 and the construction of physical infrastructure was taken forward. According to Hemraj Pujara, director of the committee, 35 buildings have been constructed so far. About 92 percent construction work has been completed at Geta Medical College, which has already invested around Rs 4.5 billion. However, the government has not yet made a policy decision on which model to run the institute, medical college, institute of health sciences or health university.
