A demonstration has been staged in Birgunj in support of the suspended captain of the Nepali national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane on September 9 afternoon. Youths demonstrated with placards bearing various slogans in support of Sandeep. They also demanded CCTV footage and to make the alleged victim public.

The youths alleged that the victim is only trying to frame rape-accused Sandeep and trying to assassinate his character. A complaint has been registered against Sandeep in a case of rape in Gaushala Police Circle Kathmandu on the charge of  raping a 17-year-old girl in a hotel on August 21. After receiving the complaint, an arrest warrant was issued by the Kathmandu District Court for further investigation of Lamichhane.
