Local demonstrators clashed with police in Ramgopalpur municipality on December 15 resulting in 6 injuries including the police personnel. The protest started after Neha Chaudhary, a victim of dowry related domestic violence at the hands of her husband and his family was denied entry in her in-laws house in Ramgopalpur despite protective court order in her favour. Neha with the support from Niharika Singh staged a sit-in on the gate of her husband Dr. Pankaj Chaudhary demanding to allow her to enter the house.
Local youths together with Niharaka had obstructed the transportation briefly on December 14 at Ramgopalpur chowk. On the next day, the protestors pelted stones at the municipality office injuring 2 APF, 3 Nepal Police and 3 municipal police personnel. Police had to fire five rounds of tear gas to take control of the situation.
The situation came under control only after police arrested both Neha and Niharika blaming of vandalism.
