A woman, giving birth at home in Mahuban VDC-3, has died on December 31, 2014, due to excessive bleeding after giving birth to a girl. Geeta Devi Rauniyar, 26, was taken to the state-run birthing centre in the midnight of December 30 but had to return after not finding any health worker, Birendra, husband of the deceased said. Locals claimed that had the centre been open, as mentioned in the rule, she might have been saved. Meanwhile, the Mahuban health centre in-charge Saroj Giri has rejected that claim saying the closure of the centre and Geeta’s death was unrelated. Giri also added that that two Assistant Nurse Midwives were in Birgunj for training and only one nurse was in the village this lack of health workers have has created the problem.
