Nepal Police on Tuesday arrested the perpetrator responsible for shooting the father of a gang-rape victim, charging him with first-degree murder. Apart from Ram Baran Yadav of Heerminiya, three others involved in the gang rape are still absconding. The victim, who had lodged a written complaint against local youths Mahesh Verma and Rampheran Kori for their alleged involvement in gang-raping his daughter on August 12, is under treatment at Teaching Hospital in Kohalpur for bullet injuries in his abdomen. “Investigation has revealed that Yadav had reached the victim’s house a few times, threatening him to take back the case,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Sushil Singh Rathaur of Banke . Following the incident, locals have been terrorised. They said that the family of the accused had been pressuring the victim’s family to resolve the issue within the village and drop all charges. The minor’s family could register the case only two days after the incident. As police claim that the search for the remaining three is underway, locals alleged the police of being unable to provide proper security to the victim. Police are said to have already started further investigation into the case after acquiring an extension from court.
